The Journal of Indian Law and Society is a product of the shared vision of the students of NUJS way back in 2003. Emerged as IJR, it served as a law journal till 2008. The need to carve out a niche for Indian thought and understanding in the present globalised world and also initiating a debate within different societal cultures led to the transformation of IJR into JILS. The objective was shifted from a strictly legal field to serve as an interface between the inter-disciplinary culture of law and society.
